Don’t Wait Until it’s Too Late!

Don't Wait Until It's Too Late!Last week I had three home visits scheduled with seniors and their families to talk about resources, financial programs, and senior housing. At the last minute, all three of those appointments called me to cancel. Two were in the hospital for major health events and one was in the nursing home for rehab after a fall. All too often I see older people waiting too long before they seek help.  Many people who are aging wait until a health crisis or other emergency before they consider organizing their finances or seeking assistance with daily life. It’s only natural. But when you wait to get the information you need to make the best decisions, you are often made to make rushed decisions in a crisis.

Meeting with a social worker, organizing your finances, making a health care directive, touring senior housing options, and/or educating yourself about senior care costs are examples of ways you can be proactive.  I meet with people at the Senior Center by appointment and also can make home visits. Sometimes, a simple consultation by phone can be very helpful. So don’t hesitate to call!
