Raking leaves is one of those chores you do yourself your whole life only to realize one year, this isn’t as easy as it was when I was 30. But the leaves continue falling, not caring about our opinion on the matter.
Senior Community Services responds to this by pairing up as many volunteers as we can with our program participants to rake their leaves for them. On any given day, there might be dozens or hundreds of volunteers out in their communities performing miracles in people’s yards.
“We have been struggling for years to keep up with outdoor work. Your help has helped us stay in our home. My husband and I want to give our eleven grandchildren the same wonderful memories
with us as we had at our grandparents’ houses.”
-Lori, HOME Program recipient
Our volunteer groups are made up of girl scouts, high school football players, families, corporate employees, faith community members, Lions, and all kinds of amazing people who understand that we all age and we will all need support eventually.
Volunteer groups often build relationships with our program recipients by going to the same house year after year. One homeowner has had the same Boy Scout troop rake for her since 2020, and recalls that she has seen them grow taller every year.

Senior Community Services would like to thank our fall raking volunteers! Whether you’ve done it with us for ages or joined us just this year, you’re part of our annual volunteer force of over 2000 people giving back to older adults. Our clients tell us often that they couldn’t stay in their homes without these services. You are what makes that possible!
If you’re hearing about this group volunteer opportunity for the first time, consider joining us next year! It only takes a few hours for your group to keep a senior in their own home that they love, rather than moving to an expensive senior living alternative.
