Gratitude, Transition, & New Beginnings: A Farewell Message from Deb

Dear Readers,

As I approach the end of my 17-year journey as COO and CEO of Senior Community Services, I am filled with immense gratitude for the opportunity to have served our community and to have shared my thoughts on aging, ageism, technology for older adults, and caregiving through my columns over the years. My retirement on May 30th marks the close of a deeply rewarding chapter in my life, one that has been dedicated to empowering people as they age.

With this transition, I am excited to embark on a new adventure, pursuing my passion for art through Paintings by Deb LLC and continuing to make a difference by serving on the Mary Ruth Weisel Foundation. This new role will allow me to focus on health equity for seniors, women, girls, and underserved populations, ensuring that my commitment to improving lives extends well into my retirement years.

I am thrilled to introduce my successor, Roxanne Jenkins, who will assume the role of CEO of Senior Community Services starting May 1st. Roxanne brings over 30 years of invaluable experience in designing and implementing innovative community-based services. Her extensive background in older adult services, coupled with her strong leadership skills, makes her the ideal candidate to guide our organization into its next phase of growth and impact.

As we prepare for this transition, I invite you all to join us in celebrating Senior Community Services’ 75th Anniversary on May 15th at the Medina Entertainment Center. This event will not only commemorate our organization’s remarkable legacy but also provide an opportunity for me to express my gratitude for my 17 years of service and to formally introduce Roxanne as our new CEO. I encourage you to visit our website https://seniorcommunity.org/75th-anniversary/ for more information and to secure your tickets for this special occasion.

Reflecting on my time at Senior Community Services, I am humbled by the trust you have placed in me and the support you have shown for our mission. It has been an honor to work alongside dedicated colleagues, board members, and community partners in our efforts to enhance the lives of older adults.

I want to extend my sincerest gratitude to each of you who has taken the time to read my columns over the years. Your interest in topics such as aging, ageism, technology for older adults, and caregiving has been a constant source of inspiration and motivation for me. Your engagement with these issues has not only enriched my work but has also helped amplify the important conversations that shape our community.
