Older adults come to us because they need a little bit of extra help since they’ve gotten older. We wouldn’t be able to do it without the 1000+ volunteers who rake lawns, shovel snow, fix computer bugs, and so much more. April is National Volunteer Month so we’re spotlighting just a few of the dedicated volunteers stepping up to support their neighbors.

“When I retired I wanted to do some volunteering that was close to Hanover and in 2023 I found Senior Community Services. After talking with Stacie [the Volunteer Coordinator] I started helping people in the area with yard work chores. I like being able to help people stay in their homes and seeing how much they appreciate the help.”
Why Tim thinks others should volunteer
“You will look forward to your next volunteer opportunity when you see how happy you made your client.”
“Our team in Monticello has volunteered with Senior Community Services for a number of years. We connected with them through other members of the Monticellio Chamber of Commerce and the Monticello Community Center.”
Their favorite thing about volunteering
“Our team looks forward to the annual fall raking every year, because it’s a great way to help individuals in the commuity who may not be able to physically do yard work or just need some extra help. Our team typically rakes several yards in an afternoon and the homeoweners are always so appreciative. Community-minded is one of our firm’s core values, and our employees look forward to volunteering and finding ways to be of service. Volunteering not only brings us closer to the community, but also makes us a closer-knit team.”

“I’ve been a tech volunteer for a few years. When I retired, I knew I wanted to volunteer at a few places and use my unique skills to help others. I volunteer twice a month with seniors who have appointments to get help with any tech items they can carry. I’ve helped with phones, laptops, and even some car questions.”
Ginal’s favorite part of volunteering
“The people of course! Everyone in the senior center, whether employee, volunteer or senior is a blast to be around. We have a wonderful community!!”
“I volunteered with the HOME Program for a summer completing home safety checks and providing recommendations to the case manager in order to support clients with continued living in their homes. Each client was unique with their own barriers and own situations, it was impactful to be able to put what I learned in my schooling to support this organization with its mission.”
Why Maya thinks others should volunteer
“They are super flexible and it is what you make it! The team is there support you and for you to update, but it’s up to you to touch base with clients.”
