Paid Handypeople are available to help with projects like:

      • Repairing or replacing faucets, toilets, and garbage disposals
      • Repairing or replacing outlets, light switches, fixtures & ceiling fans
      • Checking or replacing smoke alarms/batteries and light bulbs
      • Minor carpentry projects
      • Small painting projects

Projects are typically considered “minor repairs” if they take 1-2 visits and do not require a permit. For safety reasons, we do not go on ladders taller than 6 feet. If you’re not sure if your project qualifies, give us a call.

Schedule an appointment for a FREE Home Safety Check. We’ll tour your home and recommend repairs, assistive devices and/or other tips to help you avoid falls, reduce fire hazards and maintain your independence.

Paid staff are scheduled on an ongoing basis and can help with basic cleaning and homemaking tasks like:

      • Sweeping/mopping floors
      • Dusting/vacuuming
      • Cleaning bathrooms/kitchens
      • Helping with laundry

We offer lawn mowing and snow removal completed by paid independent contractors and volunteers. Due to high demand, we recommend signing up for service at the start of the season. You must sign up for services every season.

With the help of community volunteers, HOME offers a variety of yard services at no cost, including spring yard clean-up and fall raking.

We have paid and volunteer options for most services. You will never pay to have a volunteer come to your home (except for the cost of materials if needed for a repair).

Hourly rates for paid services are based on a sliding fee scale. No one is turned away for inability to pay. If you have concerns about cost, call us to discuss your circumstances.

We are a non-profit organization and appreciate donations of any amount to support our work! Click here to support the HOME Program

The HOME Program is funded under contract with the Central Minnesota Council on Aging and Trellis as part of the Older Americans Act program, and supported, in part, by a Live Well at Home grant from the Minnesota Department of Human Services.

Major repairs and large projects are out of our scope. If you’re not sure if we can help with something, give us a call. If we can’t help, we will do our best to recommend you someone who can.

The HOME Program does not:

      • Clean gutters
      • Get up on ladders higher than 6 ft. tall, including to trim large trees
      • Haul away yard waste (including leaves)
      • Deep clean or de-clutter a whole house
      • Do repairs that require a permit
      • Do personal or medical care

We have been struggling to keep up with outdoor work. [Senior Community Services'] help has helped us stay in our home. We want to give our eleven grandchildren the same wonderful memories with their grandparents as we had in our grandparents' house.

You just don't realize how much help you may need as you grow older. After my husband passed, ther were things I could no longer do and Senior Community Services has helped so much. My husband helped build this community and it's where I want to stay. It's my home.

The HOME Program needs volunteers and field staff!

It takes more than 2000 volunteers and field staff annually to meet the need for our services. Join the ranks to give back to seniors near you!
All opportunities are part-time with flexible scheduling — great for students and semi-retired folks!

Our highest need is currently: Snow shovelers for the 2025-26 winter season and ongoing housekeepers.
