Household & Outdoor Maintenance (HOME) Program

HOME Program services support independence and allow older adults to remain in the homes and communities they love. Services are available to anyone aged 60 and older residing in one of the cities listed below. Rates for paid services are based on a participant’s income and ability to pay; no one is denied service based on ability to pay.

Our Technology Education, Connection & Help (TECH) team members are experts in helping seniors navigate the digital landscape. Support is available by phone, in-person at designated locations and in-home for some services.

Paid handypersons are available to help with projects* like:

        • Repairing or replacing faucets, toilets, and garbage disposals
        • Repairing or replacing outlets, light switches, fixtures & ceiling fans
        • Checking or replacing smoke alarms/batteries and light bulbs
        • Minor carpentry projects
        • Small painting projects

*For safety reasons, we do not take on projects that require a permit or climbing a ladder higher than 6 feet.

Schedule an appointment for a FREE HOME Safety Check. We’ll tour your home and recommend repairs, assistive devices and/or other tips to help you avoid falls, reduce fire hazards and maintain your independence.

Paid staff are scheduled on an ongoing basis and can help with basic cleaning and homemaking tasks llike:

        • Sweeping/mopping floors
        • Dusting/vacuuming
        • Cleaning bathrooms/kitchens
        • Helping with laundry

HOME offers lawn mowing and snow removal completed by paid independent contractors and volunteers. Due to high demand, we recommend signing up for service at the start of the season.

With the help of community volunteers, HOME offers a variety of yard services at no cost, including spring yard clean-up and fall raking.

Lowe’s Home Improvement Store #1955 in Plymouth reached out to us with an offer of assistance for one of our participants. We connected them with Judy Durkee, one of our HOME program participants. Reporter Susan-Elizabeth Littlefield from WCCO & CBS News Minnesota helped us share this story. (January 2024)
